Visit the Park

​​Welcome to Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum! We hope you enjoy our miles of trails, exploring our visitor center, participating in our many public programs, or just relaxing along the shores of the Patuxent River in Calvert County.

There is no admission cost to visit our site. Certain programs and events require pre-registration and/or payment.


Public Hours

Grounds and Trails

Daily, 7:30 a.m. to Dusk 

 

Visitor Center

Through December 7, 2025– Open Wednesday through Sunday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Closed - Monday, December 8, 2025 through Tuesday, January 20, 2026 - ​Closed

January 21 through April 7, 2026 - Open Wednesday through Saturday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

April 8 through November 29, 2026 - Open Wednesday through Sunday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

 

Patterson House and Gardens & Exhibit Barn

April ​11 through November 29, 2026 – Open Saturdays and Sundays, 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. 

 

Maryland Archaeological Conservation Laboratory

Currently closed due to construction work; anticipated reopening in late 2026


Please note that some special public programs may alter the hours listed above. 

 

Holidays

JPPM is entirely closed to the public on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day. 

 

Administrative offices are closed on other State of Maryland holidays.


Inclement Weather and Other Closures​ 

Weather closures will be posted on our social media accounts.

JPPM is closed to the general public when certain large events overseen by an external organization occur on site. Those events require ticketed entry. JPPM is not responsible for those events’ ticket policies, programs, or policies.

Closures for other reasons such as hunting, controlled burns, or other site management needs will be posted in advance on our social media accounts.


Policies 

 

Please feel free to: 

  • Ask our staff about JPPM. 

  • Wander the trails and site at your own pace. 

  • Sit and contemplate. 

  • Take photos and make memories. 

  • Bring your family, your friends, and others to enjoy all that JPPM has to offer. 

  • Smile, you’re on camera. Video surveillance occurs onsite. 

  

Please do not: 

  • Metal detect or collect fossils, plants, or animals (leave no trace). 

  • Swim, hunt, trap, fish, or feed the wildlife. 

  • Smoke in buildings, set off fireworks or smoke bombs, build fires, or otherwise damage State property. 

  • Ignore our plentiful signage about parking, speed limits, and other guidance about vehicles and visitor behavior. 

  • Operate drones or other remote-controlled vehicles. 

  • Conduct yourself in a disorderly or abusive manner. JPPM reserves the right to refuse or discontinue service to a disorderly or abusive visitor.
