Jefferson Patterson Park & Museum's exhibits spread far beyond our Visitor Center.  Enjoy our 560 scenic acres along the Patuxent River, miles of trails with interpretive signs, and our canoe/kayak launch. Take a picnic lunch in the shade by the Pavilion or walk down to the mouth of St. Leonard Creek and imagine yourself in Commodore Barney’s flotilla back in 1814. JPPM is also still a working farm with crops in rotation all year long.

​Walking Audio Tours

Listen in on Jefferson Patterson Park & Museum’s newest additions: audio tours focusing on three different times in JPPM’s history accessible via cell phone! Walking in their Footsteps: A Patuxent Community showcases our replica Indian Village, 1812 Remembered highlights the effects of the War of 1812 on southern Maryland, and A Culture Revisited allows listeners to re-live the experiences of the men and women of Maryland, who worked and lived on the lands from colonial time to present. Using their cell phones to access the tour, visitors can dial into an introductory segment and step-by-step journey following signage to key locations on the property. Walking in their Footsteps begins at the head of the Indian Village trail while 1812 Remembered starts just outside the Visitor Center. This ongoing project is a collaboration between JPPM and the Huntingtown High School Archaeology Class that began in 2009. The tour is open year-round and is free for all. ​​​	Trails​ The best way to experience the scenic beauty of JPPM is to get out on one of our trails. We have distances and difficulty levels for all ages, including one trail that is themed to the War of 1812.

Indian Village The paved path that leads to the​ Indian Village does more than just help you get to your destination.  It takes you back in time. The Village was con​structed using all natural materials: tuplip poplar bark, cedar saplings, and basswood lashings. Depending on the day and the season, it can rither be bustling with activity or a quiet place to observe your natural surroundings.  Come experience what life might have been like 400 years ago.

​​​	​​ ​ ​ Canoe and Kayak Launch Our launch site is approximately one mile upriver from the calm waters of St. Leonard Creek, which is reowned for its natural beauty. Watch for bald eagles!​
